Computer Applications

The Associate of Applied Science in Computer Applications trains students in basic computer software installation and hardware maintenance. Students learn how to troubleshoot hardware and software issues, analyze data, complete basic programming tasks, and develop solutions to correct problems. Most of these programs are designed for aspiring administrative professionals who are looking to use computer applications to provide support in an office environment.

Program Outcomes:

• Student will demonstrate proficiency in using Office Suite programs.
• Student will display basic computer literacy.
• Student will demonstrate microcomputer hardware configurations.
• Student will demonstrate knowledge of preparing financial statements for a sole proprietorship.

Program Characteristics

The AAS in Computer Applications will normally take two years to complete. Students are required to take general education requirement, now called essential studies, courses to ensure a broad overview of education is provided. Computer courses cover the basics of Microsoft Office Suite programs, Web applications, Internet technology, and hardware maintenance. The AAS in Computer Applications also provides students with basic administrative skills related to a professional office environment.
Microcomputer technician certification is available through a number of the courses offered such as: CIS 160: Operating Systems; CIS 219: Microcomputer Hardware – A+ Certification Required; BOTE 127: Information Processing – IC3 Certification Required.
